SoE Honours and Awards Overview

Nominations for the second annual School of Engineering Honours and Awards are due May 1, 2011. Below is a brief description of the 5 awards. For full details and nomination forms click here.

Young Alumnus of Honour Award

The Young Alumnus of Honour Award recognizes a University of Guelph engineering graduate of the last 10 years. The award is presented to an individual who has distinguished her/himself in the profession, the community, the university and/or a related field. Nominees demonstrate significant professional and/or volunteer leadership.

Engineering Mid-Career Award

The Engineering Mid-Career Award recognizes an alumnus who has graduated from the University of Guelph in the last 10 to 25 years. This award is presented to an individual who has earned respect within the profession and in the broader community, one who has already attained significant achievement and gives promise to future contributions.

Engineering Alumni Volunteer Award

The Engineering Alumni Volunteer Award recognizes contributions of personal service to the School of Engineering, the University of Guelph and/or the community. This award honours those who have given selflessly of their time and energy through volunteer work with students, faculty or alumni of the University of Guelph and the School of Engineering. The award winners have made a significant difference through longstanding involvement, and exemplifying their loyalty and commitment to the School and our communities.

Engineering Award of Excellence

The Engineering Award of Excellence recognizes an individual, company, group or foundation for their support of the School of Engineering. This award exemplifies accomplishments based on but not limited to, the following criteria: volunteerism, promotion of the School of Engineering, financial assistance, hiring graduates and co-op students; research collaboration, government support, fundraising efforts, university governance, participation as speaker or lecturer. This award recognizes the important role the community plays in supporting the University of Guelph and the School of Engineering.

Engineering Medal of Achievement

The Engineering Medal of Achievement is the highest honour awarded by the School of Engineering and recognizes alumni whose contributions to the community, engineering, education, business and industry are so significant that they bring honour to their alma mater and fellow alumni. This award recognizes lifetime achievement or sustained commitment to excellence. Nominees demonstrate both professional and volunteer contributions made on international, national, provincial and/or local levels, as well as demonstrated leadership in business, cultural activities, and contributions to other organizations within our communities.
